Batts
We process some of our spinning wool into batts for ease of handling. We also are starting to stock batts of wool specifically for hand quilting. A quilting needle slips through wool like butter and is easier on the hands and fingers than cotton. Small batts make great lap quilts if you are new to hand quilting.
Some of our customers have used the very thick batts to separate into three or four layers for quilting. Two of these batts are currently being quilted into queen size hand quilts in California as I write.
We will have custom sized batts for full and queen available as soon as we can get the fleece back from our quilt batt processor. Most of it will be Romney and Romney crosses, but an occasional white fleece of good quality will slip in now and again. We explore new uses for fleece that most handspinners don’t use – some Suffolk fleece makes great sock yarn!!
Buddy Shetland Sock Wool comes in batts so that you can strip off pieces to spin and control color mix. Then you can even Navajo ply to keep the colors together!
